On Saturday, December 17, two people were killed and at least 15 injured in a major accident on Interstate 95.

According to Baltimore City Fire Chie, the accident happened due to snow, freezing rain and icy temperatures when a tractor-trailer tanker truck was traveling on the roadway, lost control, hit the wall and flipped over the elevated portion of the highway onto the railroad tracks below.

There were around 55 vehicles involved and in another accident on I 695 near Rosedale there were 15 to 20 vehicles involved. In both accidents aournd 12 people were taken to the hospital and there were two deaths.

Across the state of Maryland, the winter storm caused hundreds of accidents which had been predicted by the National weather Service for the Baltimore area. In Hagerstown police responded to 23 crashes.

However, the police are still investigating as the whether the two major crashes were due to the freezing temperatures or other factors.
