On Wednesday, April 8, a man was seriously injured when he was in a single vehicle accident.
According to Hagerstown police, the accident happened just before 10.30 a.m. on West Franklin Street near Hagerstown police headquarters, when a Chevrolet Cobalt which was traveling at a high rate of speed left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver had to be extricated from the car and was then taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center.
The police said they did not know whether the driver had a medical emergency before the accident occurred.
Workers arrived to stabilize the pole before the car could be removed and the power was disconnected until the work was completed. The back of the vehicle came to rest on the concrete base of a railroad overpass, with the front resting near the base of the pole.
The accident is still under investigation and the current condition of the victim is not yet known.
